We forget it’s our humanity people connect with. Laugh lines, quirks, real expressions tell real stories. “Perfection” is another Beauty Myth, right along with “photogenic”, and showing up—exactly as you are—is a much-desired freedom.

We use the word photogenic like it's a valid character trait, but in fact, it's a myth – one of the most subtle forms of self-rejection. It’s a dangerous example of how negative reinforcement weaves itself into our language, how we see ourselves, how boldly we move through the world, and how much permission we grant ourselves to be visible. Have you ever noticed how the language of we use in photography—shoot, capture, take—is needlessly aggressive? This is my exploration of how words shape the subconscious, and the why behind my refusal to accept industry standard. “I Will Never Shoot You” is both a reflection and a promise.
